Gertie Kate Adair (born August 13, 2006) is a scholar-athlete with a passion for water safety.  She maintains a B+ average at school while swimming competitively year-round for Austin Swim Club, Austin TX.  Gertie Kate prefers the distance events with her favorite USA Swimming events 1500m/ 1650yd Freestyle.  She has been swimming open water events since she was seven years old with Colin’s Hope, a water safety awareness nonprofit.  She swims a 10k (Got2Swim) in Lake Austin every year in August to raise water safety awareness and donation to Colin’s Hope.  In Oct 2019, Gertie Kate won the woman’s division of the Highland Lakes Challenge – Monster Challenge, 5 days 5 different lakes and a total of 15.6 miles.  She has earned the nickname of “Diesel” for her ability to swim so smoothly for long distances.  

In addition to Gertie Kate’s swim talents, she works tirelessly to raise water safety awareness to prevent drowning.  She has presented the water safety message of layers of protection to a room full of adults and to children in the neighborhood all with the vision that there are no more drownings.  Gertie Kate reminds everyone no one is drown-proof but drowning is preventable.

Gertie Kate looks forward to continuing her swim career through college and aspires to swim in the Olympics someday.
